It has come to my notice that the
oasent
Canton-Hankow Railway reeatly made a large
purchase of Franah Indo-China ement, and that
they used for this purpose funds forthcoming
from the loan raised on the security of Británh
Inimanity funds, The railway people have been
attacked in the Chinese press over this, but
thoir anever was that this cement was minh
cheaper than any cement made within the country
itself. As far as the use of indemnity funds
is concerted, the authorities concerned cont eml
(not to us directly of course, as we have zade
no protast) that the British Empire generally
makes no coment, and that Green Island cement
is not competitive, and that they need only buy
frus the British immpire if all other conditions
